A level
A 99.1% pass rate was achieved with 71.3 % of the grades being at A or B (excluding General Studies). RGS was also placed 20th in the country on average UCAS points scores per student. This placed RGS comfortably in the top 100 state schools on A/B percentage. This was the second highest ever A/B percentage achieving the target of over 70 % A/B grades. This placed the school ahead of local Harrogate Schools and was an improvement of some 6 per cent from last year in terms of A/B percentage. There were17 students who achieved 4 A grades or better, several with five grades A’s whilst there were 30 students with 3 grades A’s or better.
AS level
At AS, 65.73% of the grades were at A or B, whilst the pass rate (A-E) was 99.4%. This represented a big improvement from last year and augurs well for summer 2010 when this year group will sit A2 exams.
Straight A grades in 4(or more) subjects for 23 students: Daniel Barrett, Duncan Birtwistle, Sarah Fortune, Alex Gerrity, Luke Haggerty, Rebecca Howard, Talitha Kersey, Alice Milverton, Natasha Mortimer, David Mosley, Chris Osborne, Giles Pitts, Eloise Robinson, Ciaran Scannell, Frances Shaw, Rosie Tattersall, Amelia Tearle, Emily Thornton, Paul van der Westhuizen, Oliver Ward, Rachel Watkinson, Elizabeth Wilcock, Charlotte Woffenden plus many with 3 A grades.
GCSE
This year saw the best results ever in terms of A*/A with 63.5% of the grades being at that level. Almost 97% of the grades were at A*-C. These are excellent results overall since only once has over 60% A*/A grades been achieved. 98.2% of the students achieved 5 A*-C grades whilst 97.4% of the students achieved 5A*-C including maths and English.
The particularly high A* percentage meant the school was ranked highly in the Times.

555.4 average points per student was achieved which is the highest in the school’s history. 58 points are awarded for A*, 52 for an A and so on.
