General Information

ICT Management and Facilities

The system management team consists of:
Systems Manager, Assistant Systems Manager and Technician.

They are responsible for the maintenance, integrity and development of the Research Machine CC3 network and all associated equipment, across the school campus.

The network primarily consists of 282 Windows XP clients, 73 Laptops, 39 Whiteboards and 45 projectors, 57 printers and numerous other peripherals.

There are three main computer suites, two dedicated sixth-form study suites and an engineering/technology suite.

A recent purchase for the music department has been a dedicated suite of 15 Apple Macs, running the new Leopard operating system. The science department and Library each have a mobile wireless laptop facility.

Microsoft Office 2003 is installed across the network alongside approximately 120 subject specific applications.  Strict backup regimes, security and virus checking policy are applied for all users, in conjunction with external and in-house Internet filtering.

The gigabit backbone of the network infrastructure is currently being extended to the desktop level to enhance network speeds.

Student and staff work areas, learning resources and the management information system may be accessed remotely in and out of school. The school Intranet has recently been handed over to the newly formed School Council for their exclusive use.

Numerous other resources are available internally through “Oliver” the library cataloguing software, which is maintained by the librarian.

The video conferencing facility delivers Sociology and Government and Politics by distance learning to the sixth form.

The administration of the school is maintained through the “Serco Facility” management information system “CMIS”, pupil data from this can be accessed by staff and will eventually be available to parents. The system also delivers electronic registration and annual pupil reporting.

Future ICT development areas will be the new joint sixth form facility, music block and sports hall, to be completed in 2009.

The system management team are constantly developing new resources, such as mini books for SEN, wireless technology and an internal/external messaging system to enhance the delivery of teaching and learning using ICT across the school.

They are always available to give help and advice to staff, parents and pupils alike, upon any aspect of ICT and welcome any ideas or suggestions which can be used to enhance the facilities within the school.
