Welcome to new Year 7 students
March, 2010
From the Headmaster
Dear Parents,
I am delighted to learn that your son/daughter has been offered a place at
I am writing now to inform you of two events which we have organised towards the end of next term which we hope will help new pupils to feel more at home here when they arrive in September and will provide parents with some important information.
The first event is a Welcome Evening to be held on Tuesday, 29 June 2010 beginning at 6.30pm with a meeting in the school hall. We hope that all new First Year pupils and their parents will be able to attend on that evening. The aims of the Welcome Evening are to introduce to you some of the key people who will be working with new pupils in September, to allow pupils to meet their new classmates, to begin the process of making pupils better acquainted with their new environment, and to address some issues which might be of particular concern to parents. Of special importance will be the opportunity to meet our Head of Lower School, Mr Fell, who has special responsibility for younger pupils in the school.
Full uniform lists will be available on the Welcome Evening and local suppliers will have all relevant items on display. There will, of course, be an opportunity for those who have not visited the school before to look around the site, for parents to meet Form Tutors and other Senior Staff, and for any individual discussions which parents feel might help the pupils to settle in at
The Welcome Evening will be followed on Wednesday, 30 June by a First Year Induction Day when all new First Years (without their parents this time) will spend the day in school (from 9.30am to 3.00pm). They will spend time with their Form Tutor and new classmates, will experience some of the subjects which they will be studying next year, and will have the chance to sample the menu provided in our excellent canteen. Further details of the Induction Day are provided in the accompanying letter from Mr Fell.
I should be grateful if you could complete and return as soon as possible the enclosed Entry Form, so that we can begin to prepare our records. In the meantime if you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. I hope your child will settle quickly and I look forward to meeting you on 29 June.

From the Head of
Dear Student
I am writing to welcome you to
In order to help make the change from Primary to Secondary school as smooth as possible, in addition to the Welcome Evening on Tuesday, 29 June 2010 we are organising a First Year Induction Day. This will give you the opportunity to spend some time with us before the summer holidays. The date of the Induction Day is Wednesday, 30 June 2010 and you are invited to join us on that day when you will meet your new Form Tutor and your new classmates. You will also experience some of the subjects you will be studying next year and, as you will be in school from 9.30am - 3.00pm, you will be able to sample the delicious food served by our excellent school canteen. (Those who prefer may, of course, bring a packed lunch). Our aim is to answer your questions, show you what your first days will be like and to make sure that you are not at all worried over the summer. We want you to be excited about joining us!
Some guidelines for the day:-
1. Timing - You should arrive at the school between 9.15am and 9.30am and arrange to be collected at
2. Clothes - You should wear your usual school uniform and also bring some games kit and a pair of
3. Money - As you will be able to purchase a snack and lunch from the school canteen, we suggest that you
parents to contact me so that we can arrange this.
In the meantime I or one of the first year tutors hope to visit every one of our new students in their Primary schools before the Induction Day, to meet you personally, to answer any questions you might have and to calm any worries!
I am very much looking forward to meeting you here at
Yours sincerely,
Terry Fell
