SPORT: Swimming sisters make a splash

THE younger sister of a champion RGS swimmer is proving that the ability to move fast in water runs in the family.

Year 7 student Nadine Wilson qualified for the County Championships finals in Sunderland recently, swimming personal best times in multiple events including 800m freestyle and 200m fly, where she picked up the bronze medal.

The younger Sibling of Christa Wilson, who is a member of the North-East schools’ national champion swimming team, Nadine, 12, took up the sport at an early age and by eight years old had achieved honours in competitions.

She currently swims for Borough Of Stockton Swim Scheme, training for more than ten hours a week, before school, after school and during the weekend.

She said: “Although swimming is challenging at times, it is worth it.”

Older sibling Christa also won a bronze medal in the 200m fly at the English Schools National Swimming Championships.

Mother Kathryn said: ”We are extremely proud as parents of both girls’ achievements and never imagined their success would come from ensuring that they could swim to stay afloat if they fell in a pool or river when they were younger. Their love of the sport far exceeds this.”
