Sports Update

The RGS 1st X1 got off to a good start by beating a strong Thirsk School X1 by seven runs in a Twenty /20 match on the artificial surface at Thirsk.

Ripon were inserted and scored 111-4 with skipper and county all rounder BenCrewe striking a pleasing 31 not out. Opener and county all rounder George Lamb scored 23. In reply, Thirsk scored 104-8 and the Ripon fielding was sharp enough to engineer three key run outs but seam bowler Jack Richards probably swung the game by bowling Yorkshire and North of England triallist Ryan McEndrew for 8. Leg spinner Josh chandler bowled splendidly at the death for Ripon to strangle the scoring and  took two wickets.

Thursday's U/13 X1 's game at Easingwold has been postponed because the U/13 rugby team have reached the Grand Final of the Central Yorkshire league at Ilkley R.F.C. on the same night. Good luck to them!.

Instead, a full practice match will be held on the cricket square for a mixture of U/12s and some U/13s so that selection for forthcoming cup games and friendlies will be made clearer.

RGS senior rugby players will take part in the North Yorkshire sevens tournament on Friday at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate. This has been organised by the R.F.U. good luck to the team who enjoyed their tour to Holland during the Easter period.
