Lower 6th Higher Education Afternoon and Evening 6 May 2010

Higher Education Afternoon and Evening

Thursday 6 May, School Hall

We were delighted that Fred Binley, Undergraduate Recruitment Officer, University of Lancaster was able to participate in our Higher Education event. Mr Binley’s afternoon session was attended by lower 6th students and focussed on the preparation of UCAS personal statements.

The evening event was well attended by students and parents and presentations were given by Fred Binley together with school staff and upper sixth students, Ewan Lister and Rachel Watkinson. Topics included:

·         Choosing universities and courses

·         Student finance and funding

·         Oxbridge applications

·         Alternatives to university

·         The ucas application process

·         Student experiences of the application process

The aim of the evening event was to ensure that parents, as well as students, received up-to-date information on the important considerations relating to higher education, including the ucas application procedure and the cost of going to university. Following the event parents received a copy of the ucas Parent Guide which is also available on the ucas website.
