Make Your Mark With A Tenner

Make Your Mark with a Tenner Competition March 2010

The national ‘Make Your Mark with a Tenner’ competition was held in March 2010. This competition offers students the opportunity to have £10 for one month to invest in an enterprise activity.

The lure of thirty crisp £10 notes led 1B to create a range of successful mini enterprises. The most popular and lucrative theme was linked to selling food with mini businesses offering fruit sticks, cakes and donuts at break time. The audience of ‘Romeo & Juliet’ enjoyed soft drinks and confectionery sold by another team.

The business with the most visual impact sold hand made charity ribbons and the sale and auction of Pixie Lott merchandise gave one team a very healthy profit.

Old favourites such as car washing were also a success.

We were really lucky to have Old Riponian Chris Hannaway, co-owner of Artic Farm Frozen Yoghurt come to share his ideas and expertise with the budding entrepreneurs in 1B.

When 1B returned their tenners (now not so crisp) and counted up their net profit over £496 was raised for a Kenyan Children’s charity.
