Careers Bulletin (6th Form)

Dear parent,

As you know, we have a comprehensive careers and post-school choices programme to support our 6th form students as they begin to prepare for life beyond school.

As part of this programme, we publish and email various items of information to our students on a regular basis to highlight a range of out-of-school opportunities to add to their skills and experience and to help them explore a range of careers and courses. One such item is our careers bulletin which our careers department publish and email to students on the first Monday of every month.

Whilst we do not wish to overwhelm parents by emailing the same information to you every month, we thought that it might be of interest for you to see a sample of this bulletin (click here) and to be aware that you can view it every month through the 6th form careers area of SharePoint, which can be accessed through the school website from home using the student's username and password.

Our experience is that it is of great value when parents and students are able to discuss such opportunities, so we hope that making you aware of the bulletin is of help.

Currently our focus with our Upper 6th students is on the application process for university; on preparing for alternative routes beyond school, where appropriate, or on planning really valuable gap years. Once applications are in, or students are going through the process of interviews for employment or university, we will provide practice interview support, information on student finance, and turn our attention to the practicalities of life beyond school.

For Lower 6th students, we are beginning to focus upon the options open to them. We have asked all Lower 6th students to make arrangements for work experience placements at the end of next summer term (10th-14th July), and they will all have a mock interview in the final weeks of this term. We will start our post-school choices programme in earnest after Christmas, and will provide students with information on a very wide range of possible routes, and the chance to speak with former students who have taken these various options. We will be in touch to update parents at this point.

Meanwhile our careers staff are always very happy to speak with parents and students about the options available beyond school. They can be contacted on the following email addresses: and .

Best wishes,

Terry Fell
