Dear Parents / Guardians,

I am writing to all parents of our current first year pupils to invite them on our exciting trip to stay at the Château du Molay, in Normandy in the north of France, straight after the end of the summer term in their second year, from Thursday 19th July to Wednesday 25th July2018.

This is a trip which has taken place for many years, and has always been extremely popular. Accommodation will be at the fantastic Château du Molay, a castle owned by the company Travelbound, who are organising the trip. The purpose of the trip will be to learn more about the French language and culture, as well as looking at the history of that part of France from Norman times through to the Second World War. There will also be a strong emphasis on fun activities, as the chateau has its own outdoor swimming pool, and organises evening games, discos and competitions. Travel will be in two 61-seater coaches, the night after term ends, making channel crossings by ferry. There are currently 98 places on offer for this trip, but once these have been taken there will not be the option to buy more places, as the chateau has a finite number of beds available.

During the trip there will be a series of excursions to sights such as Bayeux (to see the famous tapestry), Arromanches (to see the beaches used in the D-Day landings, as well as the war cemeteries), the beautiful Mont Saint Michel, and the cities of Caen and St. Malo. We also visit a small theme park, and try our hand at bread or chocolate making at culinary workshops.

The total price of the trip, including transport, all meals and accommodation, and all visits and activities, will be about £540 (it is unlikely to exceed this amount, but given how far in advance we are planning the trip, there may be a slight change in the exact price). In order to book your place on this popular and usually oversubscribed trip we ask that you pay a deposit of £40 before Friday 3rd February 2017 (unfortunately a very tight turnaround). This deposit is non-refundable, and places will be allotted on a first come, first served basis. The preferred method for payment will be viaParent Pay.

There will then follow an instalment of £60 by Friday 30th June 2017 and the remaining balance of £440 will be due by the end of the Easter term the next year (29th March 2018). Please note, these second and third payments must be made through the Parent Pay system. If you have any concerns

about the cost involved, please contact me at school to discuss the matter in confidence.

Yours sincerely,

Mr I. T. Chamberlain
