RUGBY AT AMPLEFORTH COLLEGE

An interesting day was had at Ampleforth College in their annual
invitation rugby sevens by the RGS Seniors and Under 15s. The Ripon
seniors had a slightly unsatisfactory day, losing to Ampleforth,Yarm
and Bradford G.S.  This last game really was one that the Ripon boys
should have won but it was not to be. Thanks are extended to specialist
sevens coach Adam Whiter, an old boy of the school who enhanced his
personal sevens experience in New Zealand and who offered the school
team the benefit of his experience.

Meanwhile, the RGS Under 15s were in fine form. Good wins were recorded
against RGS Newcastle, St.Edwards College (Liverpool), and
Barnard
Castle
. The Ripon boys were guilty of complacency against Hymers
College (Hull) and squandered a two try lead. RGS were eliminated
finally on points difference.

Main try scorer , Yorkshire wing Glenn May was under employed as a
result of a niggling injury- a real blow, this!  North Yorkshire stand
off Guy Watkinson will surely follow elder brother Sam into the full
Yorkshire side in the fullness of time and ,on this display, this looks
very likely!

Thanks are extended to Mr. Auger for all his time and effort with these boys. Useful  sevens input was received from R.F.U. development officer Andy Rock, a former professional with Leeds Tykes.
