Ripon Grammar School is a selective, co-educational grammar school with boarding and an outstanding reputation as one of the leading schools in the North of England. Year 7 (first form) admissions are managed by North Yorkshire County Council’s school admissions team since the Local Authority are the admitting authority. Sixth form admissions are managed directly by the school.

For those living a long distance away, individual tours can be arranged.

Students wishing to join the school are required to sit entrance tests, managed by North Yorkshire County Council's school admissions team.

Children both in catchment and out of catchment will sit the entrance test at Ripon Grammar School on Saturday 14th September, when they are in year 6 at their primary school.  The children will sit two tests (verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning) on the day.
