The PE and sport programme at Ripon Grammar School is broad, inclusive and aspirational. We aim to provide every student with the opportunity to participate, perform and excel, whatever their level of experience or ability.
Our extensive programme of lunch-time and after-school clubs offers both performance-focused training and recreational sessions ‘just for fun’, ensuring there is something for everyone. Students can take part in a wide range of sports, including rugby, hockey, netball, football, swimming, cricket, athletics, cross country and rock climbing.
We run regular fixtures in friendly, cup and league competitions, with teams representing the school at district, regional and national levels. These experiences allow students to develop teamwork, leadership and resilience, while fostering a strong sense of school pride.
A vibrant programme of house sport provides further opportunities for all students to get involved in friendly competition. Annual events such as House Swimming, House Cross Country and the pinnacle of the sporting calendar, Sports Day Athletics, bring the whole school community together in celebration of participation, teamwork and achievement.
In addition, we are fortunate to have volunteers who run school teams in skiing, golf, equestrian and tennis. These activities fall outside our direct departmental resources but offer valuable additional opportunities for students to compete and represent RGS. Students interested in these teams should contact the Director of Sport for further details
We strongly believe that standards matter. Whether taking part for enjoyment or striving for representative honours, students are encouraged to give their best effort and embrace the challenges of sport. Regular participation and commitment are key to both personal progress and team success.
