Caring for the carers

SIXTH form pupils at Ripon Grammar School have hosted a festive tea party for local carers.

Around 40 teenagers rallied round to help give hard-working carers and their loved ones a break from their normal routine.

Students from the school’s senior choirs provided entertainment, with everyone joining in Christmas carols.

Others served sandwiches, cakes, buns and scones with strawberries and cream, and enjoyed spending time talking with their guests.

Organised as part of sixth form’s Plus One enrichment programme, students said they enjoyed themselves just much as their visitors and gained a lot from the experience.

Those who weren’t involved in the entertainment and tea party helped decorate the room, organised a raffle and worked on car parking duty and as greeters and guides

Working alongside the Carers' Resource charity, students host a similar event every half term.

Plus One coordinator Helen Nelson said everyone involved should feel proud: “We’ve had fabulous feedback from our guests about how much they enjoyed the lovely music and chatting with our students.”
