RGS athletes shine at glittering awards ceremony

TOP-performing RGS athletics stars shone on stage at a glittering 2025 Sports Awards ceremony

Leading the field at this sparkling annual event were rugby and hockey player Olly Pollock and hockey and netball player Harriet Swiers, awarded Outstanding Sports Persons of the Year.

British junior powerlifting champion and RGS past pupil Josh Berriman presented awards to more than 60 high-performing students across a wide range of sports from athletics to basketball, cycling, cricket, equestrian, football, golf, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby, running and swimming.

They included the inter girls’ athletics team, who triumphed in Team of the Year category, and Athletes of the Year, Simon Bordewich and Bobbi Todd, among the many RGS students who shone on track and field this year. Read more here

Director of sport, Adam Milner, said it was a wonderful night of celebration: "It is fantastic to see so much sporting talent, both individually and in teams, across a wide range of sports at RGS, from which all students benefit."

Praising Olly for his outstanding commitment to the U18 rugby team, he said: " Olly was an outstanding player for the sixth form rugby team and always led from the front, punched well above his weight and could always get the team on the front foot. He was a talented performer throughout his time at RGS, contributing some great performances in cricket too. His commitment to hockey outside of school is exceptional and led to great success playing lots of representative hockey.”

He described Harriet as a committed leader of the girls’ 1st XI hockey: “She galvanised the team and provided leading performances. She was always positive and had a smile on her face but when the game started was a determined performer who gave everything for her team. When needed she would happily fill in for the netball team and was often a leading performer for that team when she played.”
