William wins his wings

A RIPON Grammar School Air Cadet has been awarded his bronze wings in aviation at a special awards ceremony.

William Angus, 15, from Boroughbridge, was among 16 cadets from eight squadrons who successfully completed an intense and demanding two-day course at RAF Leeming.

The Central and East Yorkshire Wing Aerospace ground school includes subjects like principles of flight, air engineering, how to navigate a plane, meteorology and aviation law.

The qualification provides a clear pathway for further aerospace learning, with cadets often progressing to higher levels such as silver and gold, which involve more advanced training, including flight time in aircraft or gliders, leading to potential pilot scholarships or instructor qualifications.

Year 10 student William was also selected to present the wreath at the Act of Remembrance in Ripon.
