Wednesday 27th September 2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am contacting you in order to pass on important information regarding travel arrangements and payment for the French Exchange. Your son/ daughter will currently be looking forward to knowing who their partner is, in order to get in touch. However, I am still awaiting the dossiers containing this information, which is being sent from the French school this week. I will distribute this information directly to pupils as soon as it arrives.

In order to pay the outstanding balance due for this trip, please could you pay £200 via ParentPay. This should be done as soon as possible, and certainly by Monday 9th October. This will bring the total paid for the trip to £300.

Travel details

We will depart from Ripon Grammar School on Wednesday 18th October at 06:00 from the bus park. Please ensure that you arrive a little before this time, in order to load the bus and board, so that we can make a prompt departure.

We are travelling in an Atkinsons coach to Stansted Airport, where we will check in to Ryanair flight FR1782 to Bordeaux, departing at 12:30. Once in Bordeaux, a bus will take us to Pont l’Abbé d’Arnoult (about 2 hours’ drive). Upon arrival, the pupils’ exchange partners and families will be waiting for us, and your son/ daughter will be introduced to them. They will then depart for the week with their host family.

During the week, there are likely to be one or two group outings (which will involve either just the Ripon Grammar School pupils as a group, or both our pupils and their exchange partners). On Friday 19th October, our pupils will join their French counterparts in lessons at the school (Institution St.Louis, in Pont l’Abbé d’Arnoult). For the rest of the time, our pupils will be with their partners and host family, experiencing daily life with them and hopefully going on some fun outings too.

On the return journey, a privately hired bus will take us from Pont l’Abbé d’Arnoult to Bordeaux airport on the morning of 25th October. We will fly with Ryanair to London Stansted on flight 1783 at 15:40, arriving at 16:30 and we will then be driven back to Ripon by Atkinsons. I envisage us arriving in Ripon around 22:00.

Parents’ information evening

I would like to invite parents and pupils to an information evening at 18:00 on the evening of Monday 9th October in the main Hall at school. At this meeting, I will be able to pass on more specific details of our itinerary, hand out contact information and answer any questions. I would be grateful if you could bring in your son/ daughter’s passport and European Health Insurance (EHIC) card. If you are unable to attend, please would you hand these documents in to school reception in an envelope labelled with your son/ daughter’s name and ‘French Exchange’.

Yours sincerely,

Mr I. T. Chamberlain
