ASPIRING Year 10 medics took part in a medical Workshop organised by MCS Projects and hosted by Middlesbrough College.

The event consisted of introductory talks by Newcastle University medical students who gave advice about the importance of developing the necessary skills and experiences before applying for medicine and what to expect when you are at medical school.

Comments from our Year 10 students

‘The MCS medical trip has helped influence what I'd like to do in the future. It was a varied experience looking at different types of medical routes, ethics, physiology, and diagnostics. Even if I do not go on to do medicine as a job in the future, the trip was a very positive experience’.

‘It was an amazing experience to learn about the process of becoming a doctor as well as gaining an insight into the life of a medical student including what they do and learn on a day-to-day basis’.

‘At the Teesside and Durham Medical Careers Day we heard first-hand experiences from medical students and doctors, giving us a real insight into the profession. We took part in sessions on medical ethics showing us the difficult part of medics having the make the right choice, brain anatomy showing us how the body really works and practical emergency skills like CPR, the recovery position and choking making the whole experience engaging and enjoyable’.

‘I found the medical trip very educational and informative. I liked how the workshops and speeches were run by current medical students as could relate to upcoming struggles we may face in our early careers. The workshops were very interactive and enjoyable and gave me a great insight into the life of a medic. Overall, it was a very well-run trip and a positive experience’.
