HISTORY: Students go back in time

YEAR 8 students took to learning outside the classroom with a visit to Beamish Open Air Museum, where they collected evidence for a virtual exhibit highlighting the changes wrought in Britain by the Industrial Revolution.

Based in Consett, County Durham, the world famous museum brings the history of North-East England to life at its 1820s Pockerley, 1900s Town, 1900s Pit Village, 1940s Farm, 1950s Town and 1950s Spain’s Field Farm exhibit areas.

History teacher Mrs Fell said students also enjoyed some traditional sweets and baked goods from the shops in the 1900 town: "That kept them going as we walked over 12,000 steps over the course of the visit!

Luckily, the weather was good: "We managed to see the museum in glorious sunshine," she said.
