RGS students shine at cross country championships

RIPON Grammar School students shone at cross country county championships, with two athletes racing their way into the nationals.

Natasha Pointon, 15, finished second and Izzy Forsythe, 14, a close third in the inter girls race, at the North Yorkshire Athletics Cross Country Championships in Tadcaster.

They will now represent North Yorkshire at the prestigious English Schools Cross Country Championships in Liverpool in March, where they’ll be competing against top runners from each of the 46 counties in England.

A further three RGS students came in the top 15 in their age groups.

Competing against around 250 of the best athletes from all over the county on a challenging course in Tadcaster, director of sport Adam Milner said the RGS students showed real grit and determination.

“All their hard work in training has paid off. They achieved fantastic results and can be rightly proud.”

Other RGS runners, all representing Harrogate and Craven, were: Ollie Deavin (9th, senior boys); Bobbi Todd (12th, inter girls); Angus Millar (13th, inter boys) and Elizabeth Emmison (33rd, Y7).

Mr Milner also praised RGS teaching assistant and keen runner Suzanne Rickard, who runs the school's running club, for her dedication to organising, supporting and motivating the athletes.
