Young poets celebrate linguistic diversity

RGS students revealed their mastery of a wide range of languages in a poetry competition to celebrate European Day of Languages.

Budding poets from Year 7-9 wrote in Greek, Telugu, Polish, Russian, Maori, Chinese, Japanese, Bengali, Malayalam, French, Spanish, Danish and Lithuanian.

The competition, 'Mother Tongue, Other Tongue' challenged students to write a poem about colour in French or in their own language: "It was wonderful to celebrate home languages and cultures with our classes," said head of modern foreign languages Mrs Harrison.
