A RIPON Grammar School student’s outstanding GCSE success brings him one step closer to his dream job as a doctor.
Hard work has paid off for Joel Buckley, who is celebrating achieving ten grade 9s and one grade 7 after successfully balancing exam preparation with a busy schedule of music performances and a part-time job.
"I'm really delighted with my grades and looking forward to starting in sixth form at Ripon Grammar School," he said.
Joel, 16, plans to study biology, chemistry, English literature and history as he sets his sights on a career as a doctor.
His long-term goal is to study medicine at the University of Leeds, combining his passion for science with a desire to help others.
Outside the classroom, Joel, from Ripon, has been one of the school’s most active musicians, performing with Wind Band, Big Band and Brass Ensemble, as well as playing in the orchestra for school productions of Sweeney Todd and Oliver!.
As if that wasn’t enough, Joel has also juggled his studies with a part-time job at Specsavers in Ripon. Working alongside optometrists has given him valuable insight into the medical profession and strengthened his determination to pursue a career in healthcare.
Speaking after collecting his results, Joel said: “I’m really pleased that all the hard work has paid off. Balancing school, music and work hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been worth it. I’m looking forward to sixth form and taking the next step towards studying medicine.”
With outstanding GCSE grades, a strong work ethic and clear career ambitions, Joel’s future is already looking bright.
