RGS tennis stars ace tournament

RIPON Grammar School’s tennis stars triumphed in a district tennis tournament.

Up against stiff competition from Ashville College and Harrogate Grammar School, both RGS boys’ and girls’ teams were overall winners in the Lawn Tennis Association Harrogate Schools Tennis Festival Year 9 competition.

And it was a particularly special victory for the boys' team, which included two younger Year 7 pupils.

The boys' team was made up of Year 9 pupils Rufus Cunningham and Will Lawns and Year 7 pupils Henry Cawood and Tom Lawns.

They won 19 games compared to 16 from Ashville College and eight from Harrogate Grammar.

The girls' team featured Year 9 students Katie Watson, Natasha Pang, Connie Peat and Izzy Forsythe.

They won 15 games compared to 14 from Ashville College and 14 from Harrogate Grammar.

Parent Edward Lawns, who attended the event, which featured mixed ability RGS groups, ranging from competition level to newcomers, said: "Thank you to Ashville College for hosting and for a great, fun competition.  It was a fantastic performance from RGS Year 9 players in both the boys' and girls' matches."
