Salvation Army Christmas present appeal

Our Salvation Army Christmas present appeal box is overflowing after just a few days - but there's still time to donate to help support local families in need. See Mrs Stevens's letter to parents, below

Letter to our Year 8 and Year 9 families:

Dear parent or guardian,

As a school we are committed to supporting our local community and local families and when we heard of an appeal from the local Ripon branch of the Salvation Army, we immediately wanted to help!

The Salvation Army’s work locally and nationally is wide, and never so much so than at Christmas. One way of supporting families in need is a Christmas present appeal. They provide gifts for all ages of children, from new-borns to young adults (including parents and carers) and we are asking you, as parents and guardians of year 8 and 9 pupils, if you’d like to contribute to this Christmas appeal.

We ask for presents to be unwrapped so we can check they are suitable and appropriate for the age of the recipient, and it’s also nice for mum and dad to see the gifts before wrapping them for their children. They usually receive quite a good amount of presents for younger children so donations aimed at older children would be well received.

Some examples of suitable presents might be:

  • Smellies such as body spray, hand cream or bath or shower gel (gift sets are good)
  • Puzzles such as Rubik's cube, games or quiz packs
  • Board games
  • Mindful or relaxing colouring that perhaps older children might enjoy
  • Stationery, such as pretty notebooks and nice pens
  • Books - any would be wonderful but popular easy reads would be good such as Tom Gatesor similar
  • Festive sweets or selection boxes

If you would like to be involved, please ask your child to drop off gifts to reception or HL06 at school where there will be boxes to place them in. The deadline is Friday 3 December.

We thank you for supporting this local appeal for local families and wish you a very early Merry Christmas!

Yours faithfully,

Mrs F Stevens
