SIXTH FORM: Dangers of bad driving hit home

SIXTH form students learnt more about the stark reality of dangerous driving during a presentation by Ripon Fire Station crew.

The potentially fatal consequences of not wearing a seat belt, using a mobile phone and drug and alcohol use while driving, speeding and driving carelessly hit home in a series of powerful videos, featuring drivers who had been seriously injured or who had injured or killed others.

The fire crew also demonstrated how they cut drivers and passengers out of vehicles when trapped due to a crash.

Student Aimee Childs said students valued the 'eye-opening' talk: "It was extremely relevant to students as more people are now driving or learning to drive."

India Wilkinson agreed: "It's important to inform new drivers about the importance of road safety."
