Students inspired by Yorkshire Cancer research visit
RIPON Grammar School Officers have gained an insight into the vital work of Yorkshire Cancer Research during a visit to the charity’s headquarters in Harrogate last week.
The students learned about the wide range of support the charity provides to help people before, during and after cancer treatment, including activities designed to prepare patients for treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy, as well as helping them recover afterwards.
They also explored the charity’s wider operations, including its café, second-hand bookshop and donation-sorting area, where donated items are prepared for distribution to Yorkshire Cancer Research retail shops across the region.
A particular highlight was hearing about the charity’s support for 64 research projects investigating the effects of treatment for different types of cancer. The students were inspired to learn that this world-leading research is set to be shared internationally, helping to improve understanding and outcomes for cancer patients around the world.
The School Officers also showed their support for the charity by buying books from the shop and enjoying lunch in the café.
The visit provided a valuable opportunity for the students to see first-hand how Yorkshire Cancer Research is making a difference to people affected by cancer, both through pioneering research and practical support for patients and their families.
