The thrills and spills of boarding life

SAMUEL HENRY recounts a thrilling day at Flamingo Land, from nerve-racking roller coasters and dizzying spins to long queues, laughter and arriving home exhausted. Students have also enjoyed interactive darts outing, designer outlet shopping, a movie night, axe-throwing, craft activities, RAF cadets and ten pin bowling - there's no shortage of activities to get involved in every month. We hope you enjoy our photo gallery, below

AFTER a bus journey that seemed like forever (and drove me insane), we arrived at Flamingo Land. The rides looked awesome but, as ever on a school trip, there was a talk by the teachers on safety “blah blah blah safety blah blah blah stick together blah blah blah.” I wasn't really listening; all I could think about was the roller coasters, spinning and loop-de-looping around the park. The second the teachers stopped talking, all the groups shot off in different directions. My friends and I raced towards the biggest roller coaster in the park, determined to go on it first. The queue looked enormous, but none of us cared. Every time the train sped past, filled with screaming riders, my excitement grew.

After what felt like hours of waiting, it was finally our turn. As the safety bar clicked into place, I felt a mixture of excitement and nerves. The coaster slowly climbed higher and higher until we could see almost the entire park. Then, without warning, it plunged down the first drop. My stomach felt as though it had been left at the top of the track while the rest of me hurtled forwards. We twisted through sharp bends, looped upside down and sped around corners.

The rest of the day was just as exciting. We went on spinning rides and several more roller coasters. Although we had to put up with long queues, it was worth the wait every time. We also stopped for lunch. Soon it was time to leave. Everyone was tired, but we could not stop talking about our favourite rides. As we climbed back onto the bus, I realised how quickly the day had gone. The journey home felt much shorter than the journey there, probably because most people were exhausted.

Flamingo Land was one of the best school trips I have ever been on, and I would happily go again.
