AN RGS student celebrating an impressive set of GCSE results as is preparing to take a demanding combination of maths, further maths, physics and chemistry in sixth form.
Tom Charlton, from outside Ripon, achieved ten grade 9s and a grade 8 and is already looking ahead to university, with ambitions to study at a leading institution such as Imperial College London or the University of Manchester after his A-levels.
Alongside his studies, 16-year-old Tom has kept busy with a range of activities. He is a member of Explorer Scouts, while also working weekends in a tearoom and local pub.
His exam period presented an unexpected challenge when a mix-up at work meant he found himself working café shifts during the GCSE exam weeks.
Despite this, Tom was also able to find time for activities including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, completing both his bronze and silver awards.
He particularly enjoyed taking part in a design and technology competition in Year 9, which was one of his highlights of his time at school.
Now, with GCSEs behind him, Tom is looking forward to taking his studies to the next level with a combination of subjects that reflects his strong interest in maths and the sciences.
