A RIPON Grammar School student has celebrated achieving twelve top GCSE grades after juggling his studies with cadets, karate, swimming and taking up Latin.
Vlad Danila, 16, from Ripon, achieved seven 9s, four 8s and a 7 in his results, with his hard work in maths and Spanish particularly paying off.
“I’m overall happy with my results and I’m especially proud of my maths and Spanish results in which the hard work really paid off,” said Vlad.
The teenager said balancing his studies with his activities outside school had been challenging, particularly while also taking on Latin and continuing to practise the trumpet and attend cadets.
Vlad is a member of the cadets and is working towards his second dan black belt in karate, having already achieved his first dan. He also swims and hopes to complete a lifeguarding course and become a lifeguard while at RGS.
He has completed his silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and is now working towards gold.
In September, Vlad will study maths, further maths, chemistry and art at sixth form.
He is considering going on to university to study maths and economics, although he has yet to decide on his long-term career ambitions.
Vlad credited his teachers for helping him and his classmates achieve their results: “I think the teachers played a huge part in mine and everyone’s success. Huge thanks to them!” he said.
