Examinations office

The examinations office is responsible for the organisation of all internal and external examinations.

It is the aim of Ripon Grammar School to make the examination experience as free from stress and as successful as possible for all candidates.

If students or parents have any queries or need help or advice at any time before, during or after the examinations please contact the exams office staff via email: exams@ripongrammar.com alternatively, refer to the examinations frequently asked questions page.

Internal examinations

Internal examinations are scheduled throughout the year (see schedule below) and students are issued with their own timetable to help  formulate their own revision plan.

GCSE Examinations -  Thursday, 7 May - Wednesday, 17 June

AS and A level Examinations - Monday 11 May - Tuesday, 23 June

The practical examinations, assessments and controlled assessments take place throughout the school year as notified by the head of subject.

Students are issued with a personalised timetable along with a copy of an examinations booklet which explains all the rules and regulations students must follow when sitting their examinations.

It is vital that all students arrive for their exams on time, with all their equipment and fully prepared.

We appreciate that exams can be a stressful time for students. If any student does have any queries or concerns they can see Mrs Dale in the Exams office (Admin Corridor) at break, lunchtime or after school

Examination Contingency Day

The awarding bodies have designated Wednesday 24 June 2026 as the 'contingency day' for examinations. The designation of 'contingency days' within the common examination timetable is in the event of national or significant local disruption to examinations in the United Kingdom. It is part of the awarding bodies' standard contingency planning for examinations. Candidates must remain available until Wednesday 24 June 2026 should an awarding body need to invoke its contingency plan.

Collection of certificates

Certificates are usually available for collection in mid-November.  A Level students will be informed via email when certificates are available for collection.  AS Level and GCSE students will be informed, via their form tutor, when certificates are available for collection. Certificates will not be given to anyone other than the candidate without the candidate’s written authorisation.

Ripon Grammar School is only obliged to keep certificates for a period of one year after issue. If candidates do not collect their certificates within this time (or if they lose their certificates) they can only be replaced by direct application to the appropriate examination boards. This will require proof of identity (such as a birth certificate) and a substantial fee per examination board. You are therefore urged to collect your certificates and to keep them safely.
