A letter from the headmaster

Dear Parents

I write with the sound of House singing still ringing in my ears. This year’s inaugural RGS House Singing Competition was won by Porteus with an impassioned performance of Bon Jovi’s Livin’ on a Prayer reprised for a sing-off against Hutton’s rendition of Shine by Take That. It was not without trepidation of course that this event was planned, but the sense of joy generated by the whole school singing together was palpable. School and De Grey also performed songs by Coldplay and Bastille, and all the Houses competed beautifully in the small part songs also. In such a short space of time, it was tremendous to hear the quality produced and the passion with which it was delivered. Thanks must go to our judges - Mrs Lancaster, and our external adjudicator Mr J Seymour (brother of Mr E Seymour), who teaches at Sedbergh School and gave detailed feedback to all the Houses including their teachers, who sang (and danced) to the songs. A final thank you also goes to our director of music, Mr E Seymour, for organising, rehearsing and compering the whole event.

Best wishes

Jonathan Webb
