SPORT: Nancy makes a splash in rowing

AN RGS student is making a splash in a sport she took up just two years’ ago.

Nancy Manners, from Thirsk, first learnt to row on a course at Tees Rowing Club and, since then, has been selected for a number of prestigious races.

She was chosen to represent her club, based in Stockton-on-Tees,in the Junior Quads event at the Schools Head of the River Race in London.

Nancy, 16, was then selected to represent the Northern region as women’s under-16s single sculler at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta, held at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham.

Competing against the top under-16 rowers from all over the country, Nancy finished an impressive 9th out of 26 entries in her event.

Training five times a week, both on the River Tees and in the gym, Nancy, who is also a keen musician and actor, loves the competition and camaraderie of the sport.

Planning to take A-levels in French, maths, English and RE and aiming for a career in law, Nancy hopes to continue to row competitively at university.

As a small club, Tees Rowing Club is always on the lookout for keen young athletes to join the programme and run "Learn to Row" courses in the summer holidays. See more here
