Dear Parents and Carers,
We would like to make you aware of a growing national trend among young people involving Fantasy Premier League (FPL) competitions and so-called “forfeits” for those who finish at the bottom of their league.
While Fantasy Premier League is generally a harmless and enjoyable way for football fans to engage with the sport, some social media platforms have popularised increasingly extreme, embarrassing, and sometimes unsafe forfeits for those who lose private leagues. These can include public humiliation, risky dares, inappropriate behaviour, long-distance travel challenges, and activities that may place young people in potentially unsafe situations.
As with many online trends, what may begin as light-hearted competition can quickly lead to peer pressure, anxiety, or poor decision-making. Young people may feel compelled to take part in activities they are uncomfortable with in order to avoid ridicule from friends or social media exposure.
We would encourage parents and carers to:
• Talk openly with your child about any Fantasy Premier League leagues they are taking part in.
• Discuss the importance of setting appropriate boundaries and declining any challenge that makes them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
• Remind them that they should never undertake dares that could put their physical or emotional wellbeing at risk.
• Encourage them to speak to a trusted adult if they feel pressured into participating in any forfeit.
• Monitor social media content where such challenges are often shared and promoted.
At school, we regularly discuss online safety, peer pressure, and responsible decision-making with our students. We would appreciate your support in reinforcing these messages at home.
If you have any concerns or would like further advice, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours faithfully,
Mrs H Keelan-Edwards
