All that jazz and more

SIXTEEN students from RGS's Jazz Band enjoyed a day of improvisation and collective performance at Ampleforth College.

Director of RGS Music Mr Barker explained: “The sessions were led by visiting teachers to the school who seemed to take a shine to our students in particular and got then showcasing their talents from the start.

“Instruction was given on scales and modes to improvise to and how it should be structured. Our main stand out improvisers were George and Eva who showed real musicianship and were an excellent example of confidence and musicality.

“We also rehearsed Tuxedo Junction as a massed band piece with some Ampleforth College students."

At the end of the day, the students gave a short concert to invited staff and parents to showcase what they had covered.

“Our students were excellent ambassadors for the school and led the way with their musicianship and skills. We look forward to further collaborations next year,” said Mr Barker.
