An underwater adventure at The Deep

Year 7 student NADEEJA SILVA reports on how she and her classmates were wowed by everything from sharks to penguins during their school trip to a spectacular aquarium

YEAR 7 students had an exciting and memorable day exploring the underwater world at The Deep, one of the UK's most popular aquariums in Hull, East Yorkshire.

Students had the chance to see a wide variety of marine animals up close and learn more about life beneath the ocean surface.

One of the highlights of the visit was the shark tank. Walking through the famous glass tunnel was an unforgettable experience, as sharks swam directly overhead. It was especially impressive to see a stingray resting calmly at the top of the tank, giving everyone a close-up view of this incredible sea creature.

Another favourite for many students was the penguin enclosure. The penguins were entertaining to watch as they interacted with each other, often appearing playful and energetic. At one point, they were seen ‘holding hands’ and diving into the water together, which made for a particularly fun moment of the trip.

Throughout the visit, students also learned interesting facts about marine animals and the importance of protecting ocean habitats. The experience helped highlight how human activity can affect sea life and why conservation efforts are so important.

Before leaving, students had the opportunity to visit the gift shop. I chose to buy gemstones from the ‘around the world’ collection. I also discovered petrified wood for the first time, which was a surprising and fascinating find among many unique items.

Overall, the trip to The Deep was described as exciting, fun, and educational. Many students said they would recommend it to others and would be happy to visit again.
