CAREERS: RGS students reach for the sky

HIGH flying Ripon Grammar School students discovered more about a career in the Royal Air Force during an informative careers session.

With two recent past pupils now working as fast jet pilots in the RAF, many wanted to know more about this career path.

Squadron Leader Michael Lumsdon revealed it can take up to eight years to train a pilot and the cut-off for applications is 23 years of age.

Talking students through the officer application and selection process, he expanded on the wide variety of other career options available, from RAF medics, to aircraft and communication engineers.

He also revealed that the RAF was on the frontline of cyber security and helping keeping telecommunication satellites safe.

He finally described what everyday life is like in the Royal Air Force.

Squadron Leader Lumsdon will be taking part in our annual Careers Fair on March 14, 2024, when students will be able to ask further questions.

Head of careers Bob Walker said: “Huge thanks to Squadron Leader Lumsdon for his continued support of our students.”
