Cricketer Rosie celebrates being selected for county

A TALENTED young Ripon Grammar School cricketer is celebrating after being selected to represent the North Yorkshire cricket squad.

Twelve-year-old Rosie Forsythe, from Bishop Monkton, has earned her place in the county setup following an impressive performance at trials held at Ampleforth College.

Rosie, who hopes to study veterinary medicine when she finishes school, first discovered her love for cricket at the age of six while playing for her local village team.

For several years she was the only girl in the side, but that never stopped her enthusiasm for the game.

“I loved cricket from the start,” Rosie said. “Playing with the boys really helped me improve and enjoy the competitive side of the game.”

More recently, Rosie has progressed to playing for the all-girls team at Great Ouseburn, where she has become a key member of the squad.

She now trains or plays matches two to three times each week, while also representing her school team.

Along with her selection for the North Yorkshire squad, bowling out her older brother is among her proudest cricketing achievements so far - a moment she describes as one of her personal highlights.

She described the county trials at Ampleforth College as both challenging and enjoyable: “There was lots of cricket throughout the day and I really enjoyed the experience,” she said. “I was so happy to be selected because I honestly wasn’t expecting it.”

Looking ahead, Rosie hopes to continue progressing through the county pathway, with ambitions of one day representing Yorkshire.

And she will continue to balance her sporting commitments with a busy life outside the classroom.

Alongside cricket, she regularly plays netball and tennis and enjoys walking her two dogs, Rafi and Bonnie.

For now, however, she is simply enjoying every opportunity to develop her game and continue playing the sport she loves with both Great Ouseburn and her school team.
