FOOD & NUTRITION: Serving up a warm RGS welcome to new boarders

FOUR RGS food and nutrition students put their cookery skills to the test when they volunteered to produce a delicious afternoon tea to welcome new boarding students.

Georgina Wood, Aria Writer, Neve Imeson and Imogen Blythe cooked up a storm in the food and nutrition kitchens when they rose to the challenge of catering for a party of 80, all in one morning.

They produced an impressive ten Yorkshire tea breads, 80 scones, ten lemon drizzle cakes and 80 apricot and sunflower cookies for the event, attended by new boarding students and their parents.

Teacher Louise Solden said:“These GCSE students demonstrated initiative, decision-making skills and teamwork. They are already accomplished cooks, but this is the first time they have catered for large numbers.

"I am extremely proud of them and humble. They are extremely mature and hardworking. They didn't need any direction, they just used the recipes and ingredients provided and made some delicious food.”
