PE: Sporting students are the pride of RGS

TALENTED sporting students honoured at Ripon Grammar School’s annual Colours awards ceremony have been praised for breaking boundaries while excelling in their various fields.

With so many exceptional performances from lower school students throughout the year, Colours were awarded to an unusually high number of 58 students, in activities ranging from games to gymnastics, athletics, swimming and, for the first time ever, equestrianism.

Abigail Benson and Max Perry-Masey (above) won particular praise as the students who have improved most in physical education over their three lower school years.

Pride of the school are Archie Bordewich and Bella Lear (below), the most outstanding performers over the same period.

Bella was awarded Colours in four activities – an unprecedented achievement – with Archie Bordewich, Isaac Henson, Darcy Harper, Izzy Kirby and Cerys Tudbury gaining an impressive three Colours each in separate activities (pictured together, top).

And, while the awarding of Colours in gymnastics is a rare occurrence at RGS, four students who have been awarded a level 9 in the sport - Darcy Harper, Bella Lear, Izzy Kirby and Cerys Tudbury – achieved the honour this year.

The boys’ U14 cricket squad – composed of William Blythe, Charlie Borchard, Archie Bordewich, Felix Denby, Sam Hills, Will Jarvis, Sammy Kenny, James Maslen, Alfie Webster-Gill and Ben Wray - was named boys’ team of the year.

Girls’ team of the year was the U14 hockey squad, made up of Francesca Abrahams, Lucie Brown, Caitlin Brownlee, Keira Clements-Byrne, Holly Dunkley, Eva Joussemet, Lucy Laycock, Bella Lear, Molly Ord, Lucy Simenacz, Cerys Tudbury, Lily Wainwright, Maisie Willis and Evie Wood.

Director of sport Mr Milner congratulated all the prize-winners: “In current times, it's been great to celebrate and award lower school colours to Y10 students. The PE department is very proud of all these students and ask that they wear their new pin badges with pride.”
