Ripon Grammar School tops North Yorkshire GCSE performance tables

RIPON Grammar School has been ranked the highest-performing secondary school in North Yorkshire in the latest Department for Education GCSE performance tables.

Provisional figures for the 2025/26 academic year place RGS first among 41 secondary schools across the county, with an Attainment 8 score of 69.9.

The school finished ahead of Skipton Girls’ High School, which recorded 67.5, and Ermysted’s Grammar School, also in Skipton, with 64.3.

The rankings are based on the government’s Attainment 8 measure, which assesses pupils’ average achievement across eight GCSE qualification slots, including English, mathematics and a range of other subjects.

RGS’s top position is further recognition of the academic achievements of its pupils and the commitment of its teaching staff to helping young people fulfil their potential.

Attainment 8 scores provide an indication of overall GCSE attainment, although they do not measure the progress pupils make during their time at school or reflect the full breadth of a school’s educational provision.

The figures are provisional and remain subject to revision by the Department for Education.
